Earth abundant metal chalcogenide and hybrid materials as (pre?)catalysts for oxygen evolution reaction
Bidragets beskrivning
A rapid transformation from fossil fuels to renewable energy and fuels is required to control the global warming. Hydrogen is a promising clean fuel for transport and beyond that can be produced from water using renewable electricity. The process known as water splitting requires efficient, stable, and cost-effective catalysts for its two half reactions. In this project, catalysts for one of these, the oxygen evolution reaction, are synthesized using highly controlled atomic layer deposition technique. New processes will be developed for advanced chalcogenide and hybrid materials of earth-abundant metals such as nickel and cobalt. Another focus is on correlating the structure and catalytic activity of the prepared materials as well as observing the potential material changes occurring during water splitting. These insights are crucial for preparing improved catalysts in the future.
