Biodiversity interventions for well-being - BIWE
Bidragets beskrivning
Urbanization and intensive land use in cities belong to main reasons for biodiversity loss. As biodiversity supports ecosystem and human well-being, there is a huge need to rewild urban ecosystems. In BIWE, microbiologically oriented biodiversity interventions are performed to enhance biodiversity in urban built areas. The results of these intervention trials, jointly with publicly available land cover and ecological data, are analyzed from the viewpoint of shifts in ecological and human well-being and health, ecological quality and urban planning. BIWE interacts with people that are vulnerable to biodiversity loss in the everyday living environment, such as disabled and children with genetic risk of type 1 diabetes. The societal impact of the project is based on interdisciplinarity and broad interaction: BIWE combines environmental, medical, psychological and technical knowledge
