Modulation of resource distribution in cells
Bidragets beskrivning
Engineered microbial cells offer sustainable production alternative for a variety of industrially interesting molecules. Unfortunately, productivities or yields remain often too low for industrial feasibility since the resources are not well distributed between cell growth and production. Therefore the project will develop novel solutions for the modulation of resource distribution in cells to achieve economically attractive sustainable production. Novel computational methods will be developed for designing static and dynamic strategies to modulate resource distribution in cells. Designs will be evaluated in Baker's yeast, a widely used cell factory. In addition, the cells with modulated resource distribution will be characterized to gain novel knowledge on cellular regulation. The developed methods will offer major solutions to fasten the entering of new cell factories into industrial processes, and provide competitive edge for Finnish industrial biotechnology.
