Interleukin(IL)-4 and IL-4 receptors in regulation of type 2 immune responses
Bidragets beskrivning
Immune response protects us against invading pathogens; viruses, bacteria, parasites and yeasts. Inappropriately activated immune response can result in autoimmune reaction or allergic reaction. Humoral mediators, cytokines, are critical regulators of various immune responses. This study clarifies, how cytokines especially Interleukin(IL)-4 regulates allergic inflammation. By understanding how IL-4 and its cell surface receptors function, its' therapeutical utilization, for example in autoimmune diseases to redirect immune response to less inflammatory direction may become possible. In this study, we utilize genetically modified knockout and transgenic mice (some of which are unpublished), clinical samples and cell culture models. The study is collaborative project between, TaY, TAYS, Fimlab Inc and NIH (USA) and is based on my previous research (Junttila I et al., J. Exp Med., 2008, Junttila I et al. Nat Chem Biol., 2012, Junttila I et al. J Allergy Clin Immunol., 2013).
