High-entropy alloy design for improved energy efficiency and performance (HEADFORE)
Bidragets beskrivning
High-entropy alloys are a completely new class of metal alloys, that have an inherent property of high-temperature stability and very good mechanical properties. Hence they could become a key material for improving the efficiency and materials durability in power plants and machinery. Within the HEADFORE project, we will join the forces of leading groups in Finland on materials synthesis (VTT), analysis (HIP), and modelling (University of Helsinki) to design high-entropy alloys for reliable high-temperature operation. The unique key aim in the HEADFORE project is to find a well-qualified materials design route for high-quality cobalt-free high-entropy alloys. This is an important and challenging aim because almost all currently studied high-entropy alloys contain a large fraction of cobalt, which is a very problematic element from a sustainability point of view.
